![]() There is could be some minor concern about meta-gaming if you character wouldn't necessarily be aware of the of the spells and special abilities of the creature that they've summoned. The DM could let you control the monster if they feel it would be more expedient and it wouldn't be game breaking or anything, but they could also retain control and just have the creature follow whatever orders you issue. Who actually gets to control this creature? In the RAW, the summoner can issue verbal commands but if a creature such as the Couadl has magic it can use, it would be nice if the player stated what to use and when. The DM could let the caster pick what gets summoned, or they can pick it themselves. The rules don't say how to determine which of the qualifying celestials get summoned, so it's up to the DM. ![]() One of the roles of the DM is to serve as a bridge between what the rules say and what they don't. But that isn’t stated in the RAW only that the DM has access to the creature’s stat block. I’ve read online that it’s the DM that will determine what celestial creature actually appears.
